Friday, May 13, 2016 - 20:00

This evening we will screen two Academy Award winning documentaries about the hardships that women face in Pakistan - directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

A girl in the river, the price of forgiveness:
An 18-year-old Pakistani girl marries a young man who her family does not approve. For this "crime", her father and uncle kidnap and shot her in the head. Surprisingly, Saba survives the "honor killing". The documentary follows her during the recovery and return to live with her husband and his family. Saba is pressured to drop the charges against her uncle and father and publicly "forgive" them.

Saving face:
The documentary follows several survivors of acid attack and their fight for justice. Among the stories narrated we meet also Dr. Mohammad Jawad, a plastic surgeon working in London who travels back to his homeland to operate on victims of acid attacks.
