Schubertiade: the violinist Kuno Kjærbye performs Freeman Etudes
Freeman Etudes is a set of etudes for solo violin composed by John Cage. Freeman Etudes is known as one of John Cage's most complex works that is almost impossible to perform and was described Cage as "the practicality of the impossible". John Cage wrote the work in 1977 for the violinist Paul Zukofsky.
The violinist and composer Kuno Kjærbye first became acquainted with these etudes in 1977 during a master class with violinist Paul Zukofsky, who just spoke about his challenging work with John Cage and the completely impossible grips on the violin. In 2011 Kuno Kjærbye bumped into the score and was very fascinated by its graphic expression. Now he has taken up the challenge, and will be the first in Denmark to perform excepts from the Freeman Etudes. The performance of this work includes a visual part, which the artist Ditte Soria has made.
The concert is arranged by the Franz Schubert Society and is part of the Schubertiade program. Read more about it here
