Screening: Keeper of the Wilderness
This evening will introduce the documentary Keeper of the Wilderness by Erik Baláž and Robert Rajchl.
This is a story of a rare population of brown bears who live in a remote wilderness deep in the heart of the Tatra Mountains of Slovakia. Here in the Tichá and Kôprová valleys, conservationist and filmmaker Erik Baláž spent years documenting the lives of these extraordinary animals whose very survival remains under threat. For centuries, these bears roamed across all of Europe, but as civilisation spread, their habitats became ever smaller. They began retreating into mountain enclaves, inaccessible to man, where they could live free and safe. Erik, during the course of his tireless observations, entered the bears’ world on their terms. The results of his filmic records are not only intimate insights into their daily lives but also revelations to dispel the myths behind their image.
