iwillmedievalfutureyou4
Opening Friday May 8 at 5 pm - 7 pm.
iwillmedievalfutureyou4 presents several futuristic stories infused by a sense of timelessness.
The cryptic title iwillmedievalfutureyou4 indicates that even though this presentation at the museum is the first there might be more versions of the exhibition, more medieval futures, more epic vendettas to be shown and more ways of turning our society inside out. The title draws both backwards and forwards at the same time. 'I will' is an act of that points forward; indicating or predicting something that's going to happen; 'Medieval' points back; and 'Future' points towards an undefined future.
The sentence Iwillmedievalfuture4 can be read as a kind of vendette, revenge or love letter (depending on how you look at the medieval times and / or future) against a person, place, community or global condition.
The artists' show absurd and dystopian representations of the time we are living in. And in and through the works the exhibition will attempt to mirror the primitive in our present and possible future. The works depict travelling through time and space, both backward and forward. As such the exhibition can be seen as en epic tale of the future showing the dreams, fantasies and meltdown of these.
Participating artists: Abu Bakarr Mansaray (SL), Agnieszka Polska (PL), Cécile B. Evans (BE/US), Mark von Schlegell (US), Mika Rottenberg (AR/IL), Nadya Grishina (RU), Nathaniel Mellors (UK), Peter Wächtler (DE), Synd & Skam (DK) and Grégoire Chamayou (FR).
The exhibition is serial and will, over the next 100 years, be presented in 10 different ways within different frames.
The exhibition is curated by Jacob Fabricius, Artistic Director of Kunsthal Aarhus.
