Milen - Art and Landscape
Milen (in English: The Mile) is an extensive landscape south of Roskilde Dyrskueplads. The next 25 years the area will be developed in collaboration with different artists, new facilities for recreational activities will be created and the landscape will undergo significant processing, while gravel is being dug at the site. The goal is to create a unique recreational area for everyday use and at the same time underpin the possibility of bigger events to be held there.
Milen will be a creative lab for prominent artists from Denmark and abroad. As the landscape slowly changes over the next 25 years, one artwork will be added to Milen per year. The art works will point to the connection between nature and art, and thereby give the users of Milen an experience of the changeability and impermanence of both art and nature.
The Museum of Contemporary Art collaborates with Roskilde Kommune on the review, selection and the follow-up of a number of art works that will be added to the area. The Museum of Contemporary Art will function as a link between the art activities and Roskilde Kommune, and will also have an important function in the dissemination of the art to the public.
The nature of Milen will offer a different art experience, than any museum would ever be able to. It is important that art exists and flourishes, is enjoyed and used, outside the framework of museums. In time, the works of art will be integrated, not only in the landscape, but also in the consciousness of the users.
