What is Contemporary Art? #2

Saturday, May 4, 2013 - Sunday, September 8, 2013
Burn Out, Brad Downey, Elmgreen og Dragset, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen m.fl.
Works from the collection

What is Contemporary Art? #2 is the second in a line of exhibitions in which the museum explores contemporary art’s multiple modes of expression, using its collection as a stepping stone. On show are newly acquired artworks with a focus on Danish art ranging from the 90’s up until today with an emphasis on performance and sound art. The museum considers the communication of what contemporary art is and the exhibition can be used to seek more information about that very question. At the same time, the exhibition encourages the audience to contribute with their own answers to the question.

Artists: Burn Out (DK), Brad Downey (US), Elmgreen & Dragset (DK/NO), Kirsten Justesen (DK), Ann Lislegaard (DK), Christian Marcley (US), Olof Olsson (DK), Yoko Ono (US/JP), Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen (DK) and others.

Permanent installations:
The museum has dedicated two rooms to permanent installations to mark the exhibition. One room exhibits Mogens Jacobsens Hørbar (Audiobar), an interactive work shaped as a bar. The audience gets to play ’bartender’ – mixing sounds from bottles that all contain different recordings from the museum’s audio archives.

The second room is a permanent exhibition of the fluxus and concept art works of the collection. Here you will find works by Danish as well as international artists who have exhibited or performed their work at the museum over the years. Works, multiples and archival effects by Eric Andersen, Joseph Beuys, Philip Corner, Robert Filiou, Henrik Have, Geoffrey Hendricks, Per Højholt, Mogens Otto Nielsen, Witta K.R. Jensen, Alison Knowles, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Ben Vautier, Robert Watts and others.
